The Botanist was filmed in the garden of Mr. Pasti, a writer, expert on Islamic ceramics, and keen amateur botanist, who lives in Milan and Morocco.

His garden, in a village on the Atlantic coast south of Tangier, is home to hundreds of varieties of plants native to Morocco, including many rare and endangered species.
